Impact

Potential benefits, stated without inflation

We describe what the approach could enable and where the uncertainty sits. No quantified environmental claims are made before lifecycle analysis and pilot data exist.

Renewable treatment materials

Hemp can provide cellulose, fibres and carbonaceous sorbents, offering an annually renewable feedstock for treatment media.

Under validation

Reduced chemical treatment intensity

Biocatalysts may operate under milder conditions than conventional chemical treatment, typically near ambient temperature and moderate pH.

Under validation

Localized treatment

Compatible streams may be treated closer to the point of generation, which can reduce handling and transport steps.

Under validation

Circular material systems

Spent media can be designed with regeneration, metal recovery or controlled end-of-life pathways in mind.

Under validation

Words like "may" and "can" are deliberate. Quantified reductions in energy, cost or emissions require measured pilot data, which is not yet available.

Material lifecycle

Designed for a controlled end of life

Circularity here means designing regeneration, recovery and disposal decisions in from the start — not returning contaminated media to the environment.

What we do not claim

Trust in waste treatment comes from clear boundaries. These are ours.

  • We do not treat every form of laboratory hazardous waste.
  • We do not replace mandatory waste segregation.
  • We do not claim heavy metals can be biodegraded.
  • We do not currently position the platform as a commercial PFAS destruction solution.
  • We do not claim treated water is safe for discharge without analytical and regulatory approval.

Pilot program

Start with one waste stream.

HEMPZYME pilots begin by identifying a repeatable, chemically characterized laboratory waste stream and validating whether biological treatment is technically and economically suitable.
